St. Louis Music Intensive Leadership Enrichment Series (SMILES)

SMILES is a series of small ensemble coachings and leadership training sessions designed to develop musicianship, leadership and teamwork skills through the medium of chamber music. In partnership with Metro High School, the Ethical Society and David Hotle, a nationally recognized leadership training consultant, the Equinox Chamber Players will closely mentor newly created student chamber groups on a weekly basis beginning December 2010 through March 2011, preparing them for Missouri's State Solo and Ensemble Festival slated for March 4, 2011. Participants will improve their skills in musical communication and the shared responsibility required to prepare and perform together at a high level. Mr. Hotle will work in depth with the students in developing and enhancing their leadership skills. The program will culminate in a public showcase concert at the Ethical Society, giving the students the opportunity to share their achievements with a supportive audience. Participation in this program will require serious student commitment to individual and ensemble preparation and should be deeply rewarding as they strive for high rankings at the State Festival and experience their first formal chamber music recital. All participants will receive certificates recognizing their work.
