Freeing the Caged Bird
The Equinox Chamber Players, composer Dr. Barbara Harbach, and scholar Dr. Kathleen Nigro celebrate the extraordinary lives and literary contributions of Maya Angelou, Kate Chopin, Sara Teasdale and Emily Hahn, four of St. Louis’ most accomplished writers. At the heart of the event is the premiere performance of Dr. Harbach’s Freeing the Caged Bird, a woodwind quintet commissioned by the Equinox Chamber Players. Dr. Harbach discusses intricacies of her music inspired by these writers and as the music unfolds, Dr. Nigro delivers a power point presentation highlighting the historical influences of these outstanding literary artists. Opening the program is Harbach’s new arrangement of Lilia’s Polka, written by Kate Chopin for her daughter Lilia. The premiere is set for March 4th, 2007 at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, with eleven educational outreach events surrounding the premiere. Click here to view art work and read more details!

March 4th, 2007, 11:00 a.m. The Ethical Society hosts the Equinox Chamber Players and the world premiere of Freeing the Caged Bird, by St. Louis composer Dr. Barbara Harbach. Click here to read more about the program!

March 8th, 2007. The St. Louis Symphony Community Partnership Program presents the Equinox Chamber Players and guest artists Dr. Harbach and Dr. Nigro in two performances of Freeing the Caged Bird at Soldan High School. For more information, please call (314) 862-5494.

March 9th, 2007, 11:30 a.m. The E Desmond Lee Fine Arts Education Collaborative-University of Missouri-St. Louis presents the Equinox Chamber Players and guest artists Dr. Harbach and Dr. Nigro performing Freeing the Caged Bird at the University of Missouri St. Louis, 8001 Natural Bridge Rd. March 9th, 2007, 1:00 p.m. The University of Missouri-St. Louis presents Freeing the Caged Bird as an overture to USML's opening in Gallery Visio. Freeing the Caged Bird is a musical celebration of the extraordinary lives and literary contributions of Maya Angelou, Kate Chopin, Sara Teasdale and Emily Hahn, four of St. Louis’ most accomplished writers. March 16th, 2007. The Equinox Chamber Players and guest artists Dr. Harbach and Dr. Nigro perform Freeing the Caged Bird at Marquette High School .

March 23rd, 2007, Noon. The Con Spirito Concert Series invites you to join in the Lenten service with meditative music performed by the the Equinox Chamber Players at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, 100 East Adams Ave, Kirkwood, MO. For more information please call (314) 862-5494.

March 25th, 2007, 2:00 p.m. The St. Louis Art Museum presents the Equinox Chamber Players and guest artists Dr. Harbach and Dr. Nigro performing Freeing the Caged Bird. Open to the general public. For more information, please call (314) 862-5494.

April 21st, 2007, 6:00 p.m. The Equinox Chamber Players perform for the Peter & Paul Community Center annual fundraiser, "Silver Swing!" The evening features dinner by Bryan Young's Catering Plus, open bar, silent auction, music of Equinox Chamber Players and Swingset, with national swing dance champions Jeff & Matt Auclair. May 19th, 2007. As part of Gwyneth Walker’s 60th Celebration Year, many concerts have been scheduled nationally and dedicated to Gwyneth. Please come to Union Ave Christian Church for an evening of wonderful music by Gwyneth Walker. More details coming soon.
